Joseph “Joe” M. Duncan, 87, beloved husband of Doris Duncan since February 14, 1958, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

Born in Greenville, SC, on August 26, 1934, to the late Hiram and Jennie Mae Duncan.

Joe was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church. He was a 1952 graduate of Parker High School. After graduation, he began work for Hughes Real Estate designing homes. In 1955, he went to work for J.E. Sirrine Co. in the architectural department where he became a registered architect. Joe later retired in 1997 from HOK Architects in Greenville as Vice-President. After retirement, Joe and Doris enjoyed traveling extensively in their R.V. throughout the United States. In his spare time, he loved to fish. He was a man of great work ethic, family pride and dedication, and loved the Lord; his presence will be forever missed.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by sister-in-law, Nancy Duncan of Greenville; and nieces and nephews, Tammy Smith, Sherry King, Todd, Jimmy and Jerry Duncan; and numerous great nieces and nephews. By marriage, he was also survived by brother-in-law, Gary M. Turner of Opelika, AL; special niece, Vickie Adkins; nephew, Gerald Turner (Deborah); and great nephews, Trey Adkins (Hannah), Turner Adkins, and Anthony Turner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, W.L. “Larry”, Richard and Billy Duncan; and nephews, Bobby Duncan and Robert Adkins.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Growing up and getting to visit Greenville was always an adventure. I loved visiting family. Joe and Doris always had an exciting trip they had been on to share with us. I remember going to a family birthday celebration at Stone Mountain several years ago and was so excited to see Joe and Doris there. May the memories you cherish give you strength at this sad time. From 1989 to 1996 as Managing Principal for CRSS Architects, then HOK Architects, I was fortunate to have Joe as a senior project director on our team. He was the ultimate professional and a great role model for younger architects and project managers.

I will remember Joe for his sense of humor and kindness. He loved Doris. I am thankful they had the time to travel and enjoy life. Joe will be missed.

So very sorry to hear about Joe. Doris & Joe lived across from me when I was growing up. He taught me how to be a better fisherman when I was young. Our families camped together many times over the years. I always called Joe my second Dad. Prayers for Doris and the family. Lil Bob
