Katherine Fuller Soule Young, 96, of Greenville, SC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 5, 2021, surrounded by her family.

Katherine was born on January 3, 1925, in Middleboro, MA. She was a daughter of the late Albert and Alberta Soule.

One of her fondest childhood memories was the family camping trips to New Hampshire and Maine. Her adult life was characterized by faithfulness: her faithfulness to God, her marriage vows, her responsibilities, her children. She was quiet, humble, and steadfast.

After graduation from Middleboro High School in 1943, Katherine attended Bridgewater Teachers College in Bridgewater, MA, then transferred to Bob Jones College (now BJU) in Cleveland, TN, where she graduated in 1947 with a degree in elementary education. She taught at Greenville County Schools for two years, Heritage Christian School in Newport News, VA, from 1965-1970; Colonial Hills Christian School in Taylors, SC, from 1971-1986; and Hidden Treasure Christian School from 1986-2001.

Katherine was a dedicated member of Faith Baptist Church.

Her legacy will continue on with her thirteen surviving children, Tom Young (Pat) of Gray Court, Debby Caldwell (Neil) of Taylors, Rachel Campbell (Bruce) of North Dinwiddle, VA, Becky Thompson of Greenville, Sarah Jones of Easley, Lois Borders (Phil) of Greenville, Joanna Davis (Steve) of Greenville, Priscilla Marsceau (Dan) of Greer, Lydia Shirley (Bill) of Taylors, Stephen Young (Wende) of Greer, Phillip Young (Missy) of Woodruff, David Young (Gayla) of Greer, and Phebe Satterfield (James) of Gray Court. She was blessed with over 130 precious grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Also she is survived by two brothers, Charles Soule of Hingham, MA, George Soule (Janet) of Middleboro, MA, and brother-in-law, Jim Young (Dolores) of Sebring, FL.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark Young; two grandchildren, Amy Caldwell Bixby and Jimbo Thompson; her sister, Barbara Bigelow and her husband, Bill; two brothers, Kenneth Soule, and Bud Soule and wife, Thalia; sister-in-law, Elna Soule; sons-in-law, Jim Morgan, Nathan Jones, and Barry McCants; and former husband, and the father of their children, David P. Young Sr.

A visitation will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. The service to celebrate Katherine’s life will be held Friday, September 10th at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Am sending this on behalf of Kay Newnan & myself. We both had the privilege of attending church w Mrs. Young, & working at Hidden Treasure w her. Kay knew her longer than I did. Mrs. Young fleshed out the verse, "the joy of the Lord is your strength". We were blessed to have known her, & look forward to seeing her again in heaven. Praying for her family members.

While in some ways I wish I could be there, my eagerness is now bound up in looking forward to seeing my Grandma again. There is nothing that brings more comfort than ... having put my own faith and trust in Jesus Christ, knowing Grandma did the same, and being confident that one day I'll get to worship Jesus alongside Grandma in Heaven. On a warm, sunny day in 1965, I drove into Albert and Alberta Soule’s driveway in Middleboro (diagonally across the street from Grandpa and Grandma Young’s house). In the car with me were my mother and this beautiful tall blue-eyed blond girl that I was interested in. Aunt Katherine came out of her parents’ house, my mother got out of the car, and the two of them stood talking right next to the open car window. Aunt Katherine asked my mother, “Is that the girl Paul’s going to marry?” I hadn’t really thought that far ahead, but when she said that, I thought, “That’s a good idea!” So I did! Now Carol and I have six kids and twenty one grandchildren…. And it’s all Aunt Katherine’s fault!

Rachel, Cynthia and all family- my heart hurts for the loss of your beloved mama/grandma. I never met her but from all I’ve heard she was such a Godly woman. What a blessing that is. I pray God will wrap his loving arms around you all during this difficult time. I know you will grieve but may you also have an abundance of that blessed hope of knowing she is with Jesus and you will be with her again.

Uncle Charles & Uncle George, I'm hoping you see this - - our Mama's younger brothers. She loved you both, and I know you feel such a loss at this time, too. She was the baby until you two came along, but she loved you each from the start. Thank you for your expressions of love and caring to us at this time when you would like to be with the family, but cannot. My Dear Family, I am saddened greatly that I cannot be there, in person, to honor the precious Mama God gave to us, as we prepare to lay her to rest. What comforting joy to know she is with the Lord Jesus. She is the one who led me to HIM, on 68 Forest St in Middleboro - - that night still so clear in my heart and mind. Mrs. Young, she was my 3rd grade teacher, I will always have such fond memories of this sweet, sweet lady and her love of God, her children, and the children she taught. She was a very special lady. Prayers to her family.

I felt like I got a picture of what she was like from Teresa. I know she was one special lady! Praying for you all because it is so hard saying a goodbye here on earth to one who is so loved.

To the Young family, I will always remember your mother as one of the kindest women that I have ever met. I am sending lots of love to all of you.
