Kathy Diane Metcalf, 61, died Monday, February 28, 2022.

Born in Asheville, NC, she was the daughter of Billie Boone Metcalf of Mars Hill, NC and the late David Metcalf.

A mountain girl by birth, Kathy loved the beach. She found solace in the ocean waves. She loved her children and was extremely proud of her five grandchildren. She will be remembered as a lady who loved to laugh, who lived to make others smile and who brightened the day of anyone she met.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by three children, Heidi Willis Ashe (Chris), Joseph Willis (Shreena), and Mitchell Willis (Ashley); three siblings, Sheila Sams, Tracy Pressley and Tim Metcalf; and five grandchildren, Eli, Luci, and Mae Ashe, and McKenzie and McKinley Willis.

Metcalf family & Willis children, I am so sorry about the loss of your daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. Kathy was my younger cousin, whom I remember as always smiling, energetic and challenging. She had understanding, wit and empathy, beyond her young years. As an alumnus of Mars Hill University, Kathy was known as a bright, creative and determined student. These qualities, along with her adventurous spirit, helped guide and shape her diverse career path. At family events, Kathy had a knack of making one feel special and important. She was a caring, dear and considerate lady. Memories of time spent with Kathy and family are special treasures that I will always hold dear. May God give you comfort and peace during this difficult time. My prayers and condolences to all who loved Kathy Metcalf.

Mrs Metcalf, Sheila, Tim and Tracey, I’m saddened to hear of Kathy’s passing. I met her the first day of 3rd grade, when our family moved to Mars Hill. I remember that long, beautiful, dark hair. How pretty and smart she was. I remember hours of recess on the playground, jumping rope and just running around. I remember having her birthday sleepover at your house.
