Kenneth Errol Cooper, 82, passed away at home Saturday, January 7, 2023. Born in Union, SC, he was the son of the late William Dufae and Clara McWhirter Cooper.

Ken graduated from Lee Edwards High School in Asheville, NC, Class of 1958. He studied business and accounting at UNC Chapel Hill and received a BA in business management and accounting from Western Carolina University.

Ken worked at Singer/Ryobi Manufacturing in Pickens and Anderson for 35 years, retiring as the Financial Director in 2005.

Beyond his devotion to his family and career, he was an avid UNC TarHeel fan and a passionate golfer.

Mr. Cooper was a member of Buncombe Street UMC where he volunteered in the former Feeding Jesus program.

Ken leaves his sister, Penny K. Cooper of Greenville. He was predeceased by his wife, Vicki Capps Cooper.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Buncombe Street UMC Congregational Care Program or a worthy charity of one’s church.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, Downtown Campus, 200 Buncombe St., Greenville, SC 29601. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Guys like Ken are hard to come by. Something about the age of wisdom. A true southern gentleman. I will miss his smile and his presence.

Ken was a landmark at the Reserve. I always loved seeing him and chatting before teeing off. He would ask how my game was going and share a tip or two on how to make it better. He left his mark on my heart and will be missed.

To the Family of Ken, I am saddened to learn of Ken’s passing. Since we are avid golfers and got to know Ken well at the Reserve. He always was a gentleman with a smile and good word for the time. We always admired his mild mannered ways and his love for the game of golf. We will always remember him as a cherished friend !

When we moved to The Reserve in 2016 and started learning golf , Ken was always very nice to us and gave us some tips about our golf course. He was always a very charming man . We’re sorry to hear about his passing and knowing him, he’s with the Lord in a better life.

We will miss Ken. He was at The Reserve from the beginning. His smile and his kind way helped set the tone and attitude at The Reserve. He will truly be missed.

My 15 years at the Reserve doing what I love - golfing - were made so much better by Ken. He always had a "hit 'em hard" attitude and was very interactive with the members. But - when it was your tee time it was not unusual to have Ken drive over to the putting green and say with authority "you're up next Mr. Barker - let's GO". A true gentleman - may he Rest In Peace.

I want to tell you how much I appreciated Ken and his servant spirit. Mimi and I have been at The Reserve since 2004. Ken was one of the first staff members that I met when playing golf. He ALWAYS remembered when he retrieved my clubs from the bag storage area that I liked to have the towel on my bag wet in order to clean my clubs during play. That meant so much to me. He ALWAYS greeted me by name with a smile and also sent his best to my wife. I will miss him greatly. My love and prayers to his entire family. I can't wait to see him again in heaven.

I met Kenneth not long after his wife passed. I came to clean his home, and shared many a conversation with him. We would talk mostly about sports, Golf Football the most, and shared a team in the Atlanta Falcons. The last I saw Kenneth was just before Christmas. He was playing Merle Haggard and seemed in great spirits. Saddened to hear this news, and wish friends and Family condolences. Bye Ken

I'm sorry to learn of your brother's death, Penny. I know well how it hurts to lose your big brother, and I pray that your memories of good times with him will ease your sense of loss. May God grant you peace and comfort.
