Klaus and Carol, I was so saddened to hear the news of the passing of Klaus Sr. My deepest condolences go out to you and your entire family. As my Coach and Neighbor for many years, Klaus was very influential to me during my formative years. Being a “wild child” as a kid, Klaus was one of the few people who understood me. He was always patient and kind. He always talked to me in a way in which he could get through to me without raising his voice. He just got me. He taught me about respect, integrity, character, and believing in myself. A part of who I am today comes directly from the teachings and examples that Klaus Sr. showed me growing up. I am a better man for knowing Klaus. He will be missed!!
Sue & Larry McDaniel left a message on November 27, 2023:
Carol & Klaus Jr., We were so saddened to hear about the passing of our friend Klaus. We were neighbors at Waverly Hall for years and could not have asked for a better neighbor. Klaus was always walking with his dog Max and we enjoyed many talks on his walks. If you needed anything Klaus was always willing to help. He even helped me get a bird out of our house while Larry was out of town. I am sorry we missed his visitation as I have been in the hospital recently myself. Thanks for sharing the video of Klaus, it was so him. You all will continue to be in our prayers during this most difficult time. Sue & Larry McDaniel

Familie Norbert Steiner left a message on November 26, 2023:
Dear Schoening family, We are very sad... even though we only met each other rarely - Germany is a little further away - it always felt as if we had only seen each other yesterday. Klaus was a very warm-hearted and open-minded person. His clever, dry sense of humor always made us all laugh. We spent many wonderful hours together with Klaus and Carol and will miss Klaus very much. We are thinking of his loved ones and our thoughts are with you. Norbert, Sigrid, Sara, Jacob, Gabriela, Amelie and Luisa.
Joe Jackson left a message on November 26, 2023:
Always smiling! Always quick to greet you and ask how things were going. Will miss seeing him walk his dog and the quick conversations in the neighborhood.
Robin Condon left a message on November 24, 2023:
I’m so grateful to have had Klaus as my uncle and godfather. Often at family gatherings in Charleston I would be the only girl my age and Klaus would always greet me with a hug, talk to me like a friend not just a relative and encourage me to play with the boys or nudge the boys to include me! In 50 years I never saw him angry, although I never sat next to him during a soccer match… I don’t recall him talking about politics or religion, it was like he decided to keep life simple and simply love all people. It was a gift to be his niece and receive his optimism and kindness.

James Francis Beauchamp left a message on November 23, 2023:
Klaus will be missed by many especially my wife Cris and myself. He brought apple fritters too one of our church functions from a doughnut shop not far from us that none of us was aware was even there and let's just say he got us hooked. He always had a smile on his face, kind words to say and always tried to help in any way he could. Rest in peace and thanks for all you have done for our country and the joy you have brought in our lives.

Mary B. Havens left a message on November 22, 2023:
I so enjoyed knowing Klaus this last five years at Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Simpsonville. Klaus always had a smile on his face and a kind word to share. Often he would tell me a saying in German which just didn't translate easily into English. For example, "Knapp daneben ist auch vorbei" which in English is "just next to it is also over." But Klaus taught me that it means something like "even if close, one has still missed the mark." There was, however, one thing--the most important thing--I knew about Klaus, and that was that he didn't miss the mark in terms of faithfulness to the gospel of Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. Klaus loves his Lord and his Lord loves Klaus (the use of the present tense--loves--is intentional) May the truth and power of Jesus' resurrection give comfort and courage to his family and friends, for in it is the assurance of eternal life for Klaus and for all who are in Christ. Ruhe im Frieden des Herrn, mein Freund!
Laura Edge left a message on November 22, 2023:
Klaus was a giant among men in every way. He assisted our family with our financial decisions for over 50 years and through 3 generations. He was always in good humor and we had many wonderful conversations about life and his incredibly varied experiences which I will always cherish. Klaus was so proud of his family and the accomplishments of Klaus Jr. and his grandchildren. He always knew where to go about cellphone issues! Our family’s thoughts and prayers are with Carol and the family. May you be comforted by all the good memories and your ability to carry his legacy forward. Laura Edge
