Linda Atkins Batson, 79, beloved mother, mother-in-law, and “Monga”, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022.
Born in Baltimore, MD on August 2, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Carrell and Katherine Turner Atkins.
After moving to Greenville at a young age, Linda graduated from Parker High School and went to work as an operator at Southern Bell. During her 33-year career with the phone company, she held various other roles until she retired. After retiring, she had the joy of keeping her grandsons, Grayson and Ian, and it was then that she affectionately was named “Monga”.
Linda was a devoted member of Morgan Memorial Baptist church where she served as the children’s choir director, volunteered in VBS, lead young ladies in Acteens, and was active in the music ministry through singing in the choir and playing the piano. She went on short term mission trips abroad to Panama, Venezuela, and Romania as well as domestic trips where she was able to put to use her joy of doing all kinds of crafts and sharing the love of Jesus. She was a lifelong Atlanta Braves fan and always watched their games even when they were not winning.
She is survived by her son, Shane Batson (Julie); grandsons, Grayson and Ian (Lauren); her granddaughter; Chloe; and stepmother, Sherrill Atkins Murray. She is also survived by many friends and extended family that loved her dearly and will miss her, but we have the assurance that we will see her again one day.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Kimberly Dawn; and her sister, Paige Atkins Wynn.
The Graveside Service will be Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
