Loretta S. Harley, 86, wife of the late Thomas Lowman Harley, Sr., died Saturday, January 7, 2023.
Born in Barnwell County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Paul Edward Sanders and Lois Hartzog Dixon.
She was a graduate of Blackville-Hilda High School. Loretta worked briefly in the banking industry but spent the majority of her career in administration at Brushy Creek Baptist Church and the Greenville County public school system. She retired as the school Secretary at Brook Glenn Elementary School in the late 90’s.
Mrs. Harley was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church for over forty years. As an active member of the church, she devoted her time to teaching, leading youth activities, and substituting as the church pianist when needed.
Her happiest moments were spent with her son, two grandsons, and great-granddaughter. She was the most caring and special Memee, and Sophia was her heart.
She is survived by son Thomas L. Harley, Jr. (Dana); two grandsons, Lowman Harley (Dina Tsolakis-Harley) and Luke Harley (Laynie); great-granddaughter, Sophia Harley; sister, Barbara Terrapin; two sisters-in-law, Anna Harley Haskell and Linda Harley Still; brother-in-law, The Reverend Dr. Jimmie Harley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Harley was preceded in death by sister, Delores McIntosh; brother, Isadore “Izzy” Sanders; and two brothers-in-law, Gerald Harley and Willie Wayne Harley.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. in the Downtown Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland East Memorial Park.
