Louise (Howard) Norwood Martin, 87, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away while surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 13, 2021.
Born on December 13, 1933 in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Christopher Columbus and Sarah Janie (Burnet) Howard.
Louise loved the Lord and maintained a devout faith in God throughout her life. She was a prior member of Westville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School during her children’s early years and sang in the choir.
In addition to being a homemaker and raising six children, Louise was a talented seamstress and worked at Stone Manufacturing for many years. She was a “jar’s half-full” kind of lady who kept her growing children clothed in beautiful garments made by hand (without patterns) from discount cloth she would find in bulk. Her children are grateful that she had the patience and energy to teach them lessons about love, hard work, and blessings.
Louise began painting later in life and developed quite a technique. Several family members are fortunate to have her special works displayed in their homes.
Some of her favorite past times included clogging, dancing, and camping by the water. Although she never learned to swim, Louise loved the water and spent time watching the boats pulling the brave water skiers. She enjoyed cookouts, gardening, and being outdoors with her family.
Her memory is forever cherished in the hearts of her children, Curtis Norwood and his wife Cynthia of Traveler’s Rest, Debra Godfrey of Liberty, Karen Roper of Greenville, Jane Bentley Pilgrim of Easley; 11 grandchildren, Billy Ray, Christie, Laura, Robin, Spyder, Tiffany, Rene, Brittany, Adicia, Allen, Buddy; 17 great-grandchildren, Erica, Evan, Erin, Ella, B.B., Marcus, Nikki, Timmy, Kimberly, Valerie, Joshua, Jaimie, Makayla, Ashli, Malika, Gavin, Hannah; 9 great great-grandchildren, Kylee, Conner, Skyler, A.J., John Michael, Rhett, Remi, Bentlee, Isabella, and Isaiah; and a host of extended relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sons, Billy Ray Norwood and David Allen Norwood and her sister, Joyce Ellison.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 11:30 am. until 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel followed by the funeral at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery West.
