Lucille B. Jones, 91, wife of the late Donald Jones, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022 due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.
Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Grady and Mae Smith Brown.
She is survived by two sons, Steven Jones (Sarah) and Timothy (Kristina) Jones; a daughter, Peggy McCall (Tom); three sisters, Betty Goodwin, Shirley Hall, and Kay Cox; five grandchildren, Marc, Emily, Lindsay, Sam, and Ethan; as well as ten great-grandchildren, Kenna, Nathan, James, Lydia, Lucy, Dillon, Peter, Isaac, Julian and Hannah.
Lucille’s faith was important to her, and she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her Roper Mountain Baptist church family where she was a lifelong member.
She was a wonderful homemaker and devoted her life to loving and taking care of her husband and family. She and Don were married for 70 years.
She was always available to serve others if she was called on….even in a moment’s notice.
Her cooking skills were top notch and she enjoyed preparing delicious meals with her signature dishes being country style steak, rice/gravy, macaroni/cheese and cakes/pies.
Every summer that she and Don had a big garden, she canned both green beans and tomatoes and froze okra and corn.
She worked for a few years at Fashion Bug in Greenville Mall.
With instruction and help from her sister-in-law, Mattie Lou, Lucille also became a skilled seamstress and even made a formal dress with a lace jacket for her daughter’s senior year prom.
She loved to read and later in life when she wasn’t able to see well enough to read her Bible, she would ask “Alexa” to read to her as well as others.
She also enjoyed exercise by walking in her neighborhood, Heritage Lakes, where she and Don lived for 31 years.
She maintained her wit and sense of humor until the end.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel. Entombment will be in the Graceland East Memorial Park Mausoleum.
