Lucille Cooley Parker, 100, wife of the late William L. Parker, of Greenville, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. Born in Honea Path, she was the daughter of the late Augustus and Ethel Cothran Cooley.
In addition to her husband of 61 years, she was the last surviving of 14 children. Survivors include son, H. Rush (Rusty) Parker and his wife, Linda of Greenville, their three children, Jenny Terrell and her daughter, Parker Banta of Murrells Inlet, Jeff Parker and his wife Callie and their children, Reese, Lucy, and Brooks Parker of Murrells Inlet, and Joe Parker and his wife Emily and their son, Will of Fort Mill; son William (Bill) L. Parker, Jr. and his wife, Robin of Lancaster, and their children, Jonathan and Andrew Parker of Rock Hill, Carrie Mattson and husband, Dustin of Charleston, and Becky Anand and her husband Vaibhav Anand and son, Lukas of Charlotte, NC.
Lucy worked for Bell South (formerly Southern Bell) for 44 years and retired in 1982 as Residence Manager. She was also a well-known and renowned southern cook and many happy get-togethers were centered around her biscuits and fried chicken. She was a long-time member of Augusta Road Baptist Church, of Greenville, and later Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, in Powdersville. Lucy was a resident of The Gardens at Eastside for the past eight years. Her family will be forever grateful for the genuine love and personal care given to Lucy by their wonderful staff. They will also be eternally grateful to neighbors, Lee and Debby Goss, for their great friendship during her later years, in Powdersville.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m., on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m., in the Chapel. Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
