Marjorie Eunice VanHaasteren, 95, wife of the late Gerardus VanHaasteren, died Saturday, May 27, 2023.
Born in Sharon, CT, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Marion Cleaveland Fuller.
Marjorie graduated from Thomaston High School Class of 1946. She went on to study fashion design at the Trapphagen School of Design in New York City. She worked as a fashion designer for Butterick Patterns when she met her future husband Gerardus VanHaasteren in New York City, while attending a dance a the Seaman’s Church Institute. Gerardus was a Dutch Merchant Marine Officer. They were married and settled in Thomaston, CT, where they raised their family. Marjorie was a member of the DAR and could show direct lineage back to the the original Mayflower settlers. She was also an avid quilter donating many of her beautiful creations to charity.
She is survived by two sons, David Vanhaasteren (Linda), and Christopher VanHaasteren (Ellen); five grandchildren, Kayla McEvoy, Kees VanHaasteren, Corrie VanHaasteren, Katherine VanHaasteren, and Alexandra VanHaasteren; and great-granddaughter, Freya McEvoy.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Cleve VanHaasteren.
