Mark Brent Smith, 72, of Easley died Thursday, September 17, 2020.
Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late John Miller and Dorothy Brehm Smith. Mark was in the Navy for a short period of time in the beginning of his adult years but it molded his beliefs and life. His Navy career was cut short due to the death of his stepfather, Adam Smith, Jr., but he was so proud to be in the Navy and serve the United States of America. He spoke of his Naval career as some of the best times in his life. Mark worked as a shipfitter in the Charleston Naval Shipyard for 15 years, which he was part of the elite group known as "TIGER TEAM" and received numerous awards. The Bald Eagle and the American Flag were his favorite emblems.
Later in life, he made a career at Breakaway Honda, as the top salesman for a consecutive number of years before his retirement in 2016. He always loved motorcycle riding and the open road. After his retirement, he found true friendship with his motorcycle group of guys that warmed his heart, and they all had some unforgettable adventures together. He loved the open road on his motorcycles with his riding group and always spoke of those close to him with such pride and joy.
Mark had a huge heart and loved his family and friends unconditionally. We will never know another man with such a genuine, big heart like Dad. He had a smile that made the room brighter and his laugh was infectious. He made sure his family and friends were always taken care of before himself, and his generosity was amazing. He made his grandchildren, Autumn and Joshua feel like they could accomplish anything and loved them dearly. His life was well lived and will forever be unforgettable.
His family will miss Mark's love for life immensely. He was taken too quickly but God must have a plan. Kind, considerate, loving and faithful do not begin to describe this man.
"Gonna miss you dearly Pop; words just can't express how much! I will strive daily to carry out your legacy, with having your huge heart, wanting to help others and always being there through the good and the bad. I pray you rest peacefully, knowing that we'll always remember the loving ways you lived and that God blesses your soul in Heaven. I love you, Dad… and I'll see you again someday." Your Baby Boy, Brad
"I miss you Pop and my heart is broken: But a broken heart goes on beating just the same. I take comfort in God's word: "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart" Psalm 34:18. In Loving Memory, Corrie Sue Smith.
Mr. Smith is survived by two sons, Brent and Brad Smith; daughter-in-law, Holly Slappey; and two grandchildren, Autumn and Joshua.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. in the Downtown Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Guests are requested to wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
