Marlin Dutt, 91, husband of the late Martha Orileen Dutt, died Sunday August 20, 2023.
Born outside Tolstoy, SD, he was the son of the late John and Martha Rieger Dutt.
Mr. Dutt was a member of Simpsonville United Methodist Church who spent his early years farming in South Dakota. In 1952, he was drafted and served in the Korean War as Section Chief for the 987 field artillery battalion. He received his bachelors degree in math and education from Northern State Teachers College and went on to teach math for several years. Marlin earned his masters degree in mathematics from Louisiana State University. He married Martha Orileen Wilson in 1962 and later moved to Michigan where he worked for the Uniroyal Tire Company. The couple adopted a son, Stanley, and a daughter, Marci, before moving to South Carolina where Marlin worked with Michelin until his retirement. Marlin wrote a book about his family history and enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, playing with his dogs, singing in church and community choirs, and traveling to visit his family.
He is survived by his children, Marci Dutt and Stanley Dutt; granddaughter, Emily Dutt; four sisters, Ardella Hettich, Alice Johnson, Lorraine Redmond and husband, Gordon, and Judy Willcut and husband, Roger; and one brother, Ervin Dutt and wife, Danielle.
In addition to his beloved wife, who preceded him in death by just under two months, his brother and sister, Harry Dutt and Violet Sayles, predeceased him.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023 in the Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast Chapel.
