Martha Ann Baker, 82, of Greenville, beloved wife of the late Carl Edgar Baker, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023.
Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Josie Cochran Smith.
Martha was a member of Welcome Baptist Church, where her dedication to her faith and her warm spirit made her a cherished member of the congregation.
Before the challenges of COVID-19, Martha delighted in her time spent at Senior Action, where she made lasting friendships and enjoyed various activities with her fellow seniors. Her sense of humor and zest for life were contagious, bringing smiles to the faces of everyone she encountered.
Martha had a passion for square dancing and camping, and she shared these hobbies with her family, creating countless cherished memories. Her love for southern gospel music, particularly the Gaithers, filled her heart with joy, and she often found comfort and inspiration in their songs.
Above all, Martha was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and her unwavering faith in the Lord guided her throughout her life. Her legacy of love, faith, and laughter will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is survived by sons, James Carl Baker (Lori) and Daniel William Baker (Ashley); grandson, Joseph Timothy Baker (Jennifer); great grandchildren, Ariel, Skyler, Austin, Caroline, Emma, Kassidy, and Knox; and sister, Kathey Smith Matthews (Curtis).
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lynn Baker; brother, James Benjamin Smith; and sister, Jewell Davis.
A visitation will be held Friday, September 22, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Welcome Baptist Church, with the funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery West.
