Martina Millerick Flynn, 87, wife of the late Richard Brown, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Millerick Flynn.
Ms. Flynn was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. A graduate of William Paterson College, Martina was a school teacher before moving to South Carolina with her family, where she volunteered at the Laurens County Safe Home, eventually becoming its Executive Director. As a result of her work in Social Services, she was made an honorary member of The South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association. In retirement, she received her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Clemson University, and became a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Martina is survived by her son, Michael Hughes; two grandchildren, David Carlson and his wife, Stacey, Sean Carlson and his wife, Shelby; and two great-grandchildren, Logan Kellogg, and Ansley Carlson.
In addition to her parents and husband, Martina was preceded in death by her daughter, Shannon Carlson, her son, William Barry Hughes Jr., and her first husband, William Barry Hughes Sr.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Monday, November 6, 2023 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. A private Cryptside Committal will take place at a later time.
