Mary Friddle Grant born to the late Ida Langley Friddle and William Dewey Friddle Sr. in Greenville, SC. She passed away on December 25, 2023, in Lexington, SC after residing at Carolina Gardens Assisted Living since 2018. She was 101 years old.
Mary’s entire life was spent living and working in the Sans Souci area of Greenville. She was a life-long member of Sans Souci Baptist Church where she taught children’s Sunday school for almost fifty years.
After graduating from Parker High School in 1939, Mary attended one year at Winthrop College. She fell in love with R. Fred Grant, and they married in 1940. Mary began a career as an interior decorator making hand-made draperies in the upstairs of her house for clients all over Greenville.
Mary enjoyed traveling, she went on cruises to the Caribbean, visited Germany and toured areas in the western United States.
Mary is survived by her son, Robert F. Grant, Jr. (Robin) of Lexington, SC; a granddaughter, Morgan Elise Grant Thornburg (William); two great granddaughters, Maryn Elise Thornburg and Carrie Ruth Thornburg of Lexington, SC.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Fred, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Dewey Friddle, Jr. and Frank Eugene Friddle.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 29, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest, 6710 White Horse Road, Greenville. with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Northwest Chapel. Entombment will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
