Mary Fuller Ashmore McGee, 72, passed peacefully on June 29th, 2023 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Born in Greenville, SC, she was a daughter of the late John Paschal and Mary Fuller Ashmore.
Mary graduated from Greenville High School and attended Queens College, studying Fine Arts. She then began her career as Art Director of WRDW Television in Augusta, Georgia. She later spent two decades working as a holistic counselor and wellness advocate.
Mary received a Bachelors Degree in Art Therapy from Converse College in 2013, in addition to becoming certified as a Spiritual Director from the Haden Institute. She also led groups as a counselor for the Commission of Alcohol and Drug Abuse at the Phoenix Center in Greenville.
Mary spent 72 beautiful years on this earth, touching many people with her faith, friendship and generosity. She was once the PTA Volunteer of the Year, member of the Greenville County Historical Society, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a Certified Master Gardener and Certified Naturopath. Her entrepreneurial spirit benefited communities when she opened a brick-and-mortar store called Creative Health. Mary was a founding member of Camperdown Academy which opened its doors in 1986, the first school of its kind in the upstate of South Carolina. During her retirement years, Mary published articles and lectured for groups within the Greenville County Public Library and School District sharing her 50 year-long study and practice of health and wellness.
Mary was a true Renaissance woman, evident in her many skills. She was a fearless entrepreneur, talented musician and artist, school founder, creative writer, excellent water and snow skier, capable of balancing it all while raising four children. She was at peace whenever she communed with nature and especially loved being on water.
Mary was a devoted member of Augusta Road Baptist Church.
She is survived by four children and their spouses, Mary Ashley McGee, of Greenville, Samuel C. McGee (Lindsay), of Jackson, Wyoming, Henry C. McGee (Lindsey), and Cranford P. McGee (Lawson), both of Greenville; adored grandchildren Pac, Brett, Mary Ward, Henry II, Bechler, Bo, Carey and Margo; a sister, Carroll A. Clark; and a brother, John P. Ashmore, III, both of Greenville; and nieces, Reid, of Greenville, and Katherine Clark, of Savannah, GA.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Ashmore and an infant sister.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 6th from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Augusta Road Baptist Church followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Private burial will be held in Springwood Cemetery.
