Mary Jane Steele, of Greenville, wife of the late Jerry Thomas Steele, who passed away on December 23, 2009, passed away on January 11,2021.
A native of Belmont, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late James Harvey and Alpha Harmon Dickson. She was a graduate of Belmont High School and of Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC, where she earned a B.S. Degree in Piano. Prior to her marriage she was on the piano and organ faculty at Lander College in Greenwood, SC.
Mary Jane was an active member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church and served on many committees and as substitute organist. She was a Past President and active member of the Crescent Music Club for over fifty years. She taught piano privately for many years and served area churches as a substitute organist. Her leisure time was spent becoming a Master Gardener and digging in the dirt.
Mary Jane is survived by three children; Timothy Dickson Steele and wife Rena, Daniel Thomas Steele and wife Betsy, and Susan Elizabeth Steele Rodewoldt and husband Fred. Six grandchildren, Megan Steele Martin (Chris), Colin Alexander Steele, April Kelly Steele, James Thomas Steele, Emily Taylor Steele, and Frederick Willy Rodewoldt IV.
The memorial service for Mary Jane Steele has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 1:30pm at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, 200 Buncombe Street, Greenville, SC 29601. The Family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Poinsett Club, 807 E. Washington Street, Greenville, SC 29601. Guests attending in person must register at https://www.buncombestreetumc.org/funerals/ and are required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. The service will be live streamed at buncombestreetumc.org.
