McMurry “Murry” Wilkins III

McMurry “Murry” Wilkins III died Friday, February 27, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born October 10, 1946 in Winston-Salem, NC, he was the oldest child of the late McMurry Wilkins, Jr. and Ruth Cochran Wilkins. They moved to Greenville in 1948 where his grandparents lived, the late Bonnie Lear and McMurry Wilkins, Sr., and the late Tommie Farr and John Maxcy Cochran, Sr.
Murry graduated from Wade Hampton High School and attended Montreat-Anderson College, now Montreat College, in Montreat, NC. He worked for Winn Dixie in Pompano Beach, FL and Greenville, SC for more than thirty years before retiring. He then worked for more than ten years at The Fresh Market in Greenville. He enjoyed his work, was a favorite of customers, and was beloved by his coworkers.
Surviving are a son, McMurry Todd Wilkins of Lake Junaluska, NC, of who he was very proud; a sister, Janice Cochran Wilkins of Greenville; a brother, Cary Cochran Wilkins of North Augusta, SC; and an uncle, John Maxcy Cochran, Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Greenville.
The funeral service will be held at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015 with Ken Bogan officiating.
The family will be at the home of his sister, Janice Cochran Wilkins.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, therapists, and caregivers at NHC HealthCare, Greenville, and St. Francis Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society at 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.
