Melvin Eugene Burr, 90, widower of Barbara Burr, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021.
Born in Manteca, CA, he was the son of the late Glenn and Hilda Nielson Burr.
Mel was a retired aerospace engineering manager and was a member of Fellowship Greenville. He was instrumental in the development of the F1 Rocket Engine that powered the Saturn V rocket (Apollo) which placed man on the moon. He was also deeply involved with the Space Shuttle Program and the development of the Space Shuttle Main Engines (SSME) as well.
He is survived by two daughters, Darcy Archibald and her husband, Charles, Jr., and Lisa Fellbaum and her husband, David Fellbaum; five grandchildren, Charles C. Archibald, III, Aaron J. Archibald, Andrew B. Archibald, Brianna Fellbaum and Alyssa Fellbaum; plus five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mel was preceded in death by his son, Cory Burr.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 9, 2021 in Graceland East Memorial Park.
