Pauline Elizabeth (Betty) Kendall was born at home November 26, 1922, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Arthur C. Smith and late Allie T. Henson Smith. Her most significant calling of life was to be the wife of her beloved husband of 74 years, for whom she lived sacrificially, serving faithfully. She enjoyed knitting, socially interacting, fishing and her grand and great grandchildren. She conscientiously read the Holy Scripture and sought to honor her Savior Jesus Christ. She served as executive secretary to Snively Groves in Winter Haven, Florida and the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board in Atlanta, Georgia.
She is survived by her son Dr. Thomas W. Kendall, Sr. of Greenville, SC, and his wife, Jan; seven grandchildren Tom Jr. (Melissa) of Togo, West Africa; Cheriē (Mark) Jeffords of Lakewood WA; Lisë (Cleveland) Morton of Moultrie GA; John-Everett (Ali) Kendall of Greenville SC; Prentiss (Chandler) Allen of Greenville SC; Christiana (Kyle) Frederick of Greenville SC; and Hunter (Emily) Kendall US Coast Guard; daughter-in-law Judy Kendall of Hampton GA; sister Mary Lou Price of El Cajon CA; and brother Robert Smith of Cold Springs KY. She is a great grandmother to 27: Paton, Avery, Taylor, Christian, Celeste and Eden of Togo, West Africa; Oliver, Jack, Rowan and Evangeline Jeffords of Lakewood WA; Liam, Kendall, Carolina, Elliot and Elijah Morton of Moultrie GA; Rensley, Griffin, Baylor, Zanna and Dawson Kendall of Greenville SC; Hampton, Brighton, Sedalia, Aberavon, Bedford, and Easton Allen of Greenville SC; Kyle Frederick, Jr. of Greenville SC.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Kendall Sr., a son, Clyde Kendall, Jr., a grandson Robbie Kendall, and two brothers Arthur and Paul Smith.

Mrs. Kendall will lie in state Sunday, April 26, 2020, from 1 – 4 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. A memorial service will be held for family and close friends Friday, May 15, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kendall residence. Internment will follow in M. J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
