Nancy Jean Weeks Vaughn, 91, wife of the late Glenn Vaughn, Jr., of 67 years, died Thursday, March 9, 2023.

Born in Sumac, Murray County, GA, she was the daughter of the late James Everett and Etta Mae Dunn Weeks. She was a long time resident of Columbus, GA and a graduate of Columbus State University.

Mrs. Vaughn was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Columbus, GA, a former Georgia State Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was very active in many civic and patriotic committees and organizations. She was a former newspaper publisher and journalist for numerous papers in the State of Georgia.

She is survived by her daughters, Valorie Riley and Penelope “Penny” Byrd; son, Robert “Bobby” Vaughn and wife, Janet; grandchildren, Jessica Callas (Lance), Jacob Riley, IV, Clinton Byrd (Ashleigh), Charlie Frank Riley (Victoria), Clayton Byrd (Sarah), and Sarah Thiriez (Mathieu); step-granddaughter, Nancy Ann Robinson (Cameron); eleven great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Martha Weeks and Wenda Weeks.

She was preceded in death by one son, William Glenn “Billy” Vaughn, and two brothers, James Everett Weeks, Jr. and Archie Daniel Weeks.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1104 Second Avenue, Columbus, GA 31901 on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Jimmy Elder will be officiating services. Family will visit with friends at St. Luke United Methodist Church from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
