Paul Elton Tietz, 96, husband of the late Betty McIlrath Tietz, died Friday, November 17, 2023.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on July 14, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Hilda Rabold Tietz.
When Paul was 12 years old, he began his working career. He worked in more than 25 different occupations until he retired at 65 years of age. He loved to learn new skills, so when he mastered one skill, he began to look for another job to learn something new. Most of his working career involved electrical drafting and nuclear design drafting.
Paul served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1945-1947 in Berlin, Germany. He told many stories of adventures during this difficult time after World War 2. He had always loved music and even found a piano teacher in Berlin.
Paul always had a meditation, a story, a memory or a joke to share. He loved his family and prayed daily for many family members, friends and acquaintances. His last four years were physically difficult, but he always said thank you and lived by the knowledge that God understands and directs our steps as we walk through any situation. We will miss his pearls of wisdom very much… “of him, to him, through him are all things”, “this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison…”, look for “treasures in the sand”, “apart from Christ, I am a failure” and many more.
He is survived by two daughters, Bettijean Krewson and husband, William, Kathleen Whigham and husband, Martin; grandson, Andrew Whigham and wife, Fiorella Labo-Whigham; four granddaughters, Charlene Serang and husband, Maqsood, Abigail Cramer and husband, Isaiah, Anna Pearson and husband, Tim, Laura Smith and husband, Brian; and six great-grandchildren, Evan Serang, Kathryn Serang, Hannah Serang, Imlah Cramer, Theo Pearson and Elliott Pearson.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his six siblings Dorothy Belka, John Tietz, Maxine Peterson, Thelma Faith, Meredith Tietz, and Hilda Tietz.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Graceland East Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideons International. (gideons.org OR The Gideons International Processing Center, P.O. Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090-7251).
