Phyllis Jean Payton Jones, 90, devoted wife of 50 years to Richard Jones, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 2, 2022.
Born in Merced, CA, she was a daughter of the late R.V. and Arloene Stafford.
Phyllis was the epitome of a classy lady. She was an accomplished seamstress, always stylish, and had a way with words. A gourmet cook, who liked things spicy (just like her wit) and enjoyed entertaining her many friends. Phyllis worked hard to make everything in her life, including the home that she and Richard built together.
Above all, Phyllis was a woman of great faith and prayer. When she prayed, you could tell she KNEW who she was talking to, and her beautiful prayers blessed many. At her passing, Phyllis was the oldest member of Lickville Presbyterian Church. She was a leader and moderator of the Women of the Church and Face Up. Her church considered her a “spiritual giant who was filled with the Holy Spirit”. Phyllis loved giving, and everyone who came into contact with her felt blessed and loved. She knew what she believed and didn’t mind telling you which was something that so many loved about her.
Phyllis also loved cats and gardening – specifically azaleas, hydrangeas, and rhododendron. She even enjoyed pulling weeds. She was a talented artist and displayed some of her work in the Belton displays as well as the weekly church bulletin which featured her drawing of the church.
In addition to her loving husband, her legacy will continue on with her children, Robert Payton (Sue), Paula Payton Brock, Patty Katashima (Tom), James Payton, Denise Woods (Ed), Kelley Bose (Keith), Shannon Jones, Autumn Rich (Pete); lots of loving grandchildren; her brother, Bud Stafford; and numerous other loving family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her sister, June Norris.
A visitation will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Lickville Presbyterian Church, 10020 Augusta Road, Pelzer, SC, 29669, followed by the Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. officiated by The Reverend Lindsay Graham.
Memorials may be made to Lickville Presbyterian Church which will be donated in her memory to Samaritan’s Purse Ukraine Relief.
