Rachel Southerland Wilson, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 22, 2022, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Greenville, SC, to the late William Leon and Evelyn (Galloway) Southerland, she was a 1957 graduate of Parker High School.
After graduation, Rachel began a long career as an administrative assistant at JP Stevens. After several years working for various department heads, she became the executive assistant to the president of JP Stevens, a title she held for many years. Rachel continued her career with various other companies including Merrill Lynch, JPS Glass, Edward Jones and several local attorneys. In 2014, at the age of 75, she retired from her professional career.
Rachel was a member of Monaghan United Methodist Church where she was the choir director for over 40 years. She was also an active member and pianist in the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 40 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Lisa Williams (Martin); a grandson, Jacob Williams (Jennifer); a granddaughter, Kiley Williams; two great-grandchildren, Charlie and Sophie Britt; and a brother, Gerald Southerland (Linda) of Rutherfordton, NC.
In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dallas B. (DB) Wilson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Monaghan United Methodist Church, 2 McBeth St., Greenville, SC 29611.
