Rev. Clyde Elliott Wright, 85, of Greenville, husband of the late Hilda Ann King Wright passed away on Monday, November 23, 2020.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Cardinal Wilsey and Effie Marie Bagwell Wright.

Rev. Wright pastored in Texas and South Carolina and retired after 27 years at Brandon Baptist Church. He was very involved in the Greenville Baptist Association, as well as the South Carolina Baptist Convention. Rev. Wright graduated from Greenville High School, Furman University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a member at Taylors First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught Bible studies.

He is survived by daughter, Paula W. Prince and her husband Keith; sister, Marilyn Bryant; brother, Wayne Wright and wife, Sharon; grandchildren, Kamlyn Prince and her fiancé, Noah Banks, Kinley Prince and his wife, Ashley; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and loving wife of 56 years, he was preceded in death by brothers, Cardinal Wilsey "Buddy" Wight, Jr., William Charles "Bill" Wright, and Claude Rushton Wright.

Although no formal Receiving of Friends will be held, friends may pay their respects and leave notes of condolence to the family on Friday, November 27, 2020 from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. A funeral service will be held Sunday, November 29, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Taylors First Baptist Church. Burial will be private. Friends are encouraged to follow social distancing guidelines and to wear a mask.

Pastor Clyde was truly a great man of God ! Such a kind, humble pastor with the sweetest spirit. He loved people and loved talking with people and really getting to know them. He served Roper Mtn Baptist well and we'll never forget him and how he helped our church by being interim pastor for a season. He baptized my youngest daughter there and met us at the church one afternoon to talk with her...taking time to care about her and serve his Lord. He was also a great friend to my late uncle Ariail Smith. We'll cherish the memories....what an honor to have known him. God bless you at this time - prayers of comfort for you Paula and your family. What an amazing legacy he leaves behind.

Brother Clyde was such a wonderful servant of God. I am sure that when he gets to heaven the Lord will say: "Well done my good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord." In the days ahead my wife, Mary Ruth, and I will be praying that God will comfort his precious family.

Brother Clyde was my first pastor when I was saved at 22. He baptized me and led my ordination council to the ministry. He was a faithful preacher of the Word and a wise, patient counselor. I thank God for his example of Christian living and ministry.

Bro. Clyde was my pastor for many years after coming to Brandon and when my wife Gloria past in February 2020, I called and asked him to assist Rev. David Gallamore with her funeral and he was glad that he could. He was a great friend and pastor. He is MISSED.

A great pastor and friend to everyone. I was glad to be a friend and Christian with him as he assisted me when my wife Gloria passed in February 2020.

I am so very thankful that I was able to get to know Mr. Clyde while working with Good News Club. He was a kind but honest man. He and I would have conversations weekly. His love for God was evidenced in all he said and did. He was wonderful in his communications with the children. I will miss him. My sincere thoughts are with the family.

Preacher Wright as well as his wife, Miss Hilda, will forever be held in my heart. He baptized me as a child in South Carolina. Wonderful influence and friend of our family. Rest in Peace good and faithful servant.

Rev. Wright was an amazing man who I was privileged to have known. He and his wife were leaders to the youth of Brandon Baptist Church he was a great friend to my father Doyle Clary and loved to talk sports. He also loved to tell the story of he and my dad trimming the Christmas Tree at the church and they kept cutting to get it just right that they had very little tree left. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. May God Bless you.

Preacher Wright was dear to my heart when I was a child. I pray for strength for the family in the days to come. Keep your memories of him forever in your heart just as I will. He was a special man who touched many lives. And we are all better people for having known him.
