The Rev. Mr. Vernon D. Miller, resident of Rolling Green Village, died on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the age of 91.
The son of the late Rev. Mr. Vernon E. Miller and Myrtle I. Miller, he was born in Baltimore, MD. He was educated in the Baltimore City public schools, at Albright College, and at Union Presbyterian Seminary (Richmond, VA). Following service in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 until 1955, he worked in business until entering seminary in 1962.
The Rev. Mr. Miller held pastorates in Roanoke and Christiansburg, VA, and served as a Parish Associate at First Presbyterian Church, Hilton Head Island, SC, following retirement. Service on committees, boards, and agencies of the PCUSA denomination at Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly levels and extensive involvement in community service programs were a part of his forty years of ministry.
The Rev. Mr. Miller is survived by Edna Ruth E. Miller, his wife of 64 years; their daughters, Patricia Lynn Miller of Alexandria, VA, Kathryn Miller Loveland (Jeffrey) of Greenville, and Mary Carol Gavin (Michael T.) of Arlington, VA; granddaughters, Hannah E. Gavin (Brendan Carson) and Sarah Carin Gavin (Ali Imran); and step-grandsons, Brian Loveland (Mackenzie) and Robert Loveland.
A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2310 Augusta Street, Greenville, on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Mr. Ben Dorr. Please note that masks are required regardless of vaccination status. Interment will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Baltimore, MD.
