Reverend Carl Henry Raines

August 28, 1921 - August 1, 2004
Reverend Carl Henry Raines, 82, of 111 Andrea Circle, formerly of Rocky Slope Road, Greenville, died Sunday August 01, 2004 at Country Side Village. Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late John Henry and Lula Ethel Clark Raines. He was twice married, first to the late Helen Singleton Raines and second to Mildred Jones Raines of the home. Reverend Raines was a retired Baptist minister and Pastored churches in Westminster, Walhalla, Seneca, Blacksburg, and Jasper County. He was a graduate of Furman University and attended Erskine Theological Seminary. He was a WWII United States Army Veteran having served in the European Theater and received a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. He was a member of Laurel Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Jane Jones of Greenwood; two sons, Paul Raines of West Union and Alan C. Raines of Greenwood; a stepdaughter, Melda Renee Jones of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Melvin G. Raines of Greenville; two grandchildren, Chris Raines of Blacksburg and, Katie McCarty of Greenwood; and three great grandchildren, Will Raines, Alex Raines, and Gracee McCarty. Visitation will be Tuesday August 03, 2004 from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be Wednesday August 04, 2004 at 1:30 PM in the downtown chapel. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Laurel Baptist Church, 2331 Laurens Road, Greenville. The family will be at the home.
