The Reverend George Thomas Madden, 89, of Greer, beloved husband of Etta Turner Madden, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Monday, August 8, 2022.
Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late H.A. and Hattie Welborn Madden.
Reverend Madden was a retired Church Of God Minister and a member of Praise Cathedral Church of God in Greer, SC, and a part time associate of Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes. Reverend Madden was a graduate of Welcome High School. After graduating high school, he continued his education, attending Clemson University, and earned degrees from Lee College and the Church of God Pentecostal Theological Seminary.
During his years in ministry, he served the Lord pastoring several area churches including, Travelers Rest Church of God, Bennestville Church of God, Gap Hill Church of God, Woodside Church of God and Elmwood Avenue Church of God. Reverend Madden also served on the South Carolina State Youth Board and South Carolina Church of God State Council. He was the South Carolina Church of God Evangelism Director, and Superintendent for the South Carolina Church of God Home for Children.
Reverend Madden had a passion and heart for ministry, he loved his Lord, his church and his family. He lived the life he preached on a daily basis. Reverend Madden had a servants heart and Christlike spirit that radiated the love of the Lord. His presence will be missed but his legacy of love and ministry will continue on through his loved ones.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by sons, Reverend Thomas “Tom” A. Madden (Charla) and Reverend Jerry D. Madden (Jan); four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Miriam Madden; and two brothers, Elmer Madden and Curtis Madden.
A visitation will be held Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Praise Cathedral Church of God, Greer SC. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Praise Cathedral Church of God, Greer, SC. A private burial will be held.
