Reverend Robert C. Vance, 86, folded his earthly tent and went to his heavenly home on September 4, 2023.

Remembered as a wonderful husband and father, he is survived by his wife, Jeanette Trimnell Vance and his daughter, Andreea Vance. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Pat O’Brien Vance; nephew, James “Jay” Vance; and niece, Melissa Berg (Kevin).

Born October 27, 1936 in St George, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Reverend C.H. Vance and Edith Lucille Hebb Vance. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Vance of Roanoke, VA.

Reverend Vance attended Lee University from 1955-1957 where he met his loving wife, Jeanette, and were married 66 years ago on September 4, 1957. It was during this time that he began his ministerial career of evangelizing and pastoring in the Church of God.

Over the course of almost 50 years, Reverend Vance pastored 12 churches across the states of Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and South Carolina. He also served as State Youth and Christian Education Director in Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Reverend Vance took on the mantel of ministry with great dignity. His passion was being a Pastor, a Shepherd. He felt this to be a high honor with great responsibility of loving and caring for his flock. And he knew that accomplishing great things for God was not in his own ability, but in the total reliance on the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

To so many, he was Pastor Vance, a gentle giant with a heart just as big.

I was saddened by the news of Bro. Vance passing. He has left a legacy of love, truth, and faithful servant. He and Jeanette were a special kind, fun to be with; our memories will always be treasured. While there are no words to ease the pain of loss, the promise of "tomorrow" brings comfort. To be absent from this body and be present with our Lord and hear Him say. "Well done my faithful servant, you fought a good fight..." is what he heard, and perhaps "Happy Anniversary" too. Jeanette and Andrea, knowing you have many friends who love you and praying for you bring the peace that only God alone can give.. Love you!

I am am praying for you at the home going of Bob Vance. He was a gentle giant that I am glad I could call a fried. He was so kind to me in youth camp in PA. Bob and Jeannette were a great blessing to the Church of God. May God bless you is my prayer.

Jeanette and Andreea, l have been trying to find words to describe my feelings over losing my friend, family member, mentor, and beloved pastor. You know how much my family loved him and you two. You were with us in joyful and devastatingly sad times. Always loving and supporting. I have so many personal and precious memories! My heart is broken but my spirit is rejoicing! Bob Vance was one of a kind and he has made it home. My first reaction was a visual memory of him walking back and forth waving his big white handkerchief as he worshiped the Lord. I hate to hear of Bro Vance's passing! I got to know him and his family very well when we lived in South Carolina for 2.5 years. He was not only a great Pastor to me, but also a great human being who was extremely kind and very generous as well. My sincerest condolences and prayers going out to his wife Jeanette and to his daughter, Andreea during this most difficult time.

Where to begin? What could I say that would be adequate? Pastor Vance was like a father to me and demonstrated so much love. There aren’t words enough to convey his impact on me. He encouraged me when I was much younger in my life and ministry. He and Sis. Vance were there for me when I was sick in the hospital and literally at the point of death. It was their prayers, along with Nancy Harmon, and other saints that made the difference for me. I learned a lot from this great man. I will never forget to remember to wipe out that sink when the kitchen is clean! When those dishes are done, that sink is wiped out. I love you Sis. Vance and Sis. Andrea! I am praying for you.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Brother Vance . He was my pastor for 15 years at Tremont Church of God . I have too many fond memories to count and I was honored to know him and his wonderful family . He was the best pastor and always led us with love and a kind spirit and was very supportive to me in my younger formative years always encouraging me to use my talents for the lord . Heaven only knows the true impact of his life of service to the Lord . He and Sister Vance set the standard for what a true Pastor and Pastors wife should be and as he said so many times It was the anointing that made the difference.
