Reverend Roderick Malcolm O’Shields, 88, loving husband of Mary Jo Spearman O’Shields, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2021.
Born in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Denny and Lilly O’Shields.
He served proudly in the United States Army. Rev O’Shields was a big supporter of Wren High Hurricanes and the Powdersville Patriots. He was also an avid Clemson fan and enjoyed their success and accomplishments.
Rev. O’Shields was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Easley where he taught Sunday School at one time and a retired foreman with Union Carbide. He was an active member of Gideons and enjoyed working with children sharing his faith in the Good News Club. Rev. O’Shields loved Jesus and wanted others of all ages to come to have a personal relationship and walk with Him. Alongside the love he had for His Lord and Savior was the love he had for his family, they were his greatest joy and testament to how he lived his life.
In addition to his loving wife of 19 years, he is survived by sons, Michael O’Shields (Cindy), Pastor Donnie O’Shields (Dana), Reverend Ronnie James (Jan), Greg James (Misty), and Mark James (Bridget);grandchildren, Steven O’Shields (Amber), Craig Owen (Julie), Ryan O’Shields (Whitney), Stacie O’Shields, Micah O’Shields (Mariah), Anthony O’Shields (Mary), Justin O’Shields (Chasta), Danielle DeShields (Grant), Michelle Mahaffey (Hunter), Reverend Nathan James (Jordan), Brandon James (Brooke), Bretten James Rush (Donovan), Roiann James, Austin James (Keeley), and Samantha James; great grandchildren, Aurora James, Andrew James, Jordann Noonan, Ferron Jones, Anders DeShields, Elijah O’Shields, Erin O’Shields, Mya O’Shields, Drayton, O’Shields, Kylan O’Shields, Caleb O’Shields, Clara Owen, Hazel Owen, Amora, Analia and Alair Cantrell; and a brother, Patrick O’Sheilds.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye McNeely O’Shields; brothers, Charles and Denny L. O’Shields, Jr.; and a sister, Mildred Seavorn.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial will be held in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
