Richard F. “Rick” Harris, of Columbus, GA, formerly of Greenville, SC, passed away September 26, 2023. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and son who placed the needs of others above his own.
Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Thomas L. Harris, Jr. and Ann Favor Harris.
Rick graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1968 and briefly attended Greenville Technical College where he studied engineering. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1968 and honorably served for four years.
Following his career in the armed forces, Rick pursued flight training and earned his pilot’s license in 1975. He was blessed with a rewarding career in aviation and retired in 2013 as a Corporate Pilot with Synovus Financial after 23 years of service.
Rick was an automobile enthusiast who enjoyed restoring vintage cars and attending antique car shows. One of his greatest joys was the restoration of his bright red 1940 Ford coupe.
Rick loved the Lord and possessed a steadfast faith and was a longtime member of Piedmont Park Baptist Church in Greenville. After relocating to Georgia in the 1980s, Rick’s family attended Morningside Baptist Church in Columbus.
Rick is loved and mourned by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte M. Harris and their son, Ricky Harris. He also leaves an uncle Earl Baldon and several cousins.
A graveside service will be Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park. There will be no visitation at the kind request of his family.
