Richard Stephens,79, devoted husband of Elaine Stephens, peacefully passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023.
Born in Orlando, FL, he was a son of the late Perry and Willie Mae Cook Stephens.
Mr. Stephens was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Richard was a true family man. He was happily married to his devoted wife, Elaine, for an incredible 55 years. Together, they created a loving home and raised four wonderful children. Richard cherished his roles as a husband and father, always putting his family first and providing them with unwavering love and support.
Richard had a zest for life and enjoyed various hobbies during his free time. He was an avid fisherman, finding solace and joy in the tranquility of nature. He also loved to hit the golf course, where he showcased his competitive spirit and skill. As a dedicated Georgia Tech fan, Richard could often be found cheering on his favorite team and proudly donning their colors.
Devoted to his faith, Richard was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and took pride in serving his community. He dedicated numerous hours to volunteering and giving back, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Richard’s dedication and selflessness touched countless lives and left a lasting impression on the hearts of many.
Richard Stephens will be forever remembered for his unwavering love, humor, and the impact he made on the lives of those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and the importance of family. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Stephens; daughters, Kristin Hock (Brian), Theresa Stephens, and Heather Devine (Michael) ; son, Richard Stephens (Lisa); sisters, Vicki McCourt, Andrea Mallory and Lee Layton; brother, Perry Stephens, Jr.; along with 7 grandchildren, Braden, Brianne, Elise, Lucy, Alice, Perry, and Penny.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Martin.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, October 2, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
