Robert Joe Gaines, Jr., 61, husband of Ginger McCall Gaines, died Wednesday, August 16, 2017.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Derrell Reid Gaines and the late Robert Joe Gaines, Sr.

Joe was the owner of the House of Crystal gift shop. He was a Methodist.

Survivors, in addition to his wife since 1979 and his mother, include one son, Robert Joe Gaines, III, “Trey”; one daughter, Kristen Gaines – Drummond and husband Graham of Manchester, England; one grandchild, Logan Ellis Drummond; and one brother, Jamie Gaines. He was predeceased by a brother, Barry Gaines.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 until 3:45 PM on Sunday, August 27, 2017, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, with the Funeral Service to follow at 4:00 PM.

Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.

So sorry that Joe is no longer with us. We didn't get together often due to us being across the pond but had some great times especially Christmas at our house and taking Joe to watch Middlesbrough Football club when he preferred Manchester United but he still cheered us on. And at Graham and Kristens wedding trip in Charlestown where the golf was good and we had the most amazing filet mignon. Thanks for the memories Joe . To all the Gaines: What wonderful memories the Cookes have of the Gaines! I always remember how supportive your dad was to my dad and how our families got to know each other and hang out! Thankful for the many memories through Salem! There was lots of laughter, as well as some sadness, but great friends we all became. Joe and Barry were very humble and special men. Joe was so special and a friend to all. In school, he had a smile for everyone and was always joking or telling us about pranks he had played. He was loved by all who knew him. Praying for God's loving arms to surround and comfort you in the days and months to come. RIP Joe.
