Robert “Bob” Henson went to be with the Lord on July 20, 2023. He was 84 years old.
Robert was born on May 7, 1939 in Beaumont, Texas to Robert Lee Henson, Jr. and Sigrid Roos Henson. Robert spent his entire childhood in Beaumont where he grew up in church, always very involved in his youth groups and church activities. Robert graduated from Beaumont High School in 1957.
Robert attended the University of Texas at Austin where he earned degrees in Economics and Accounting. In 1959 while at the University of Texas, Robert met the love of his life, Lisa Winters, and they were married in 1961. In 1963, Robert started his career in Houston, TX with Humble Oil (later named Exxon and what is now ExxonMobil). While working for Exxon, Robert and Lisa also lived in North Carolina; Tennessee; London, England; New Jersey; and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Throughout this time, Robert volunteered, served as a deacon, and was on the finance committee at the churches where he and Lisa were members. Robert and Lisa enjoyed traveling together, visiting most of the world with family and special friends. Robert spent his entire career with Exxon, retiring in 1997 after 34 years.
Robert and Lisa built their retirement home in Flat Rock, North Carolina, an area they enjoyed living in for 19 years. During this time, Robert spent much of his time volunteering for The Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, hospice care, and Interfaith Assistance Ministry. Robert and Lisa then built their last home in Greenville, SC.
Robert and Lisa shared a beautiful life together for almost 62 years. Robert is survived by his wife, Lisa; their children, Sigrid Henson Schuld (Steven) and Michael Henson (Nancy); and their grandchildren, Ryan Schuld (Logan), Rachel Schuld Harvey (Shawn), Ashlyn, Brooke, and Riley Henson. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Houston, TX where Robert will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Interfaith Assistance Ministry and First Presbyterian Church (Greenville, SC). Gifts can be made online at www.iam-hc.org or firstpresgreenville.org. Please make your donation in memory of Robert Henson.
