Robert Luce passed away June 2, 2021 as a result of a motorcycle accident. Born August 13, 1998, in Williamsburg, Virginia, Robert moved to Greenville when he was 2 ½ years old and attended school at Augusta Circle Elementary, Hughes Middle School, and Greenville High.

During his childhood, he enjoyed sports and was active in Greenville Little League, YMCA flag football, competitive cycling, and Buncombe Street United Methodist Church basketball. He ran track at Greenville High, where he first lettered as a 7th grader, and also passionately played rugby for multiple seasons. He was most at peace in the outdoors – hunting, fishing, hiking, and climbing – he recently traversed 1,000 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail and completed solo, sunrise summits of Mt. Baden Powell, CA; Mt. Whitney, CA; and Longs Peak, CO. In his free time, he was known to climb a crane, hop a train, or take a ride on his motorcycle. He most recently worked on cell towers for SC Tel Con where he pleasured in breathtaking office views from 300+ feet off the ground.

Robert never met a stranger, was always willing to help those in need, and loved to make you laugh. He was a member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church where he developed a heart for God and a personal relationship with Jesus. He loved to share his faith with those who were not in the know. He was the Go-To-Guy for friends in trouble or in need of a helping hand. Robert was a wonderful young man with an admirable free spirit and a zest for adventure, mischief, and life itself. He will be deeply missed.

Robert is survived by his twin brother, William Luce; sister, Avery Luce; parents, William & Laura Lynn Luce; grandparents, Gene & Shirley Patterson and Lynn Luce; aunt & uncle, Cassie & Will Plaster; cousins, Carter, Miller & Hunter Plaster; and beloved dog, Tucker.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bill Luce.

A visitation will be held at the family’s residence on Capers Street on Sunday, June 6, 2021 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 7, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Triune Mercy Center, 222 Rutherford Street, Greenville, SC 29609.

My heart is broken for all of you. Words are not very helpful at a time like this , but please know you are SO LOVED and the body of Christ is crying out for you. You are such an example to all of us of faith in the valley. My son, Joey Batson, was a good friend of Robert's. They attended Hughes and Greeville High together. I had the pleasure of meeting him only once. He was such a sweet young man. My heartfelt condolences go out to all of you, and his friends. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Laura and I were saddened to learn of Robert's death. We had the twins in 2nd grade SS. I can hear Laura Lynn calling "Luce" to get one of the men in her life. We moved to Foothills Retirement Community in Easley in October 2016. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me Phil 4:13" God's Grace will get you through the difficult days ahead.
