Robert Patrick Porter, 87, devoted husband of Patricia A. Porter, died on Sunday, September 11, 2022, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Cincinnati, OH, on November 17, 1934, he was the son of the late Joseph W. and Edna F. Porter.
Mr. Porter served in both the Ohio and Tennessee Air National Guard during the Korean War. He graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH and spent 30 years in the health care industry, where he held key management positions. After his retirement, he relished the time he spent with the Sea Pines Real Estate team on Hilton Head Island, SC, and enjoyed boating, playing golf, traveling, hiking, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a life-long fan of the Cincinnati Reds and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Mr. Porter was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville, SC.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 64 years, he is survived by his son, Timothy P. Porter and wife, Johna, of Hilton Head, SC; daughters, Debra L. Porter of Newtown, PA and Kristie P. Davies and husband, Sterling, of Columbia, SC; and six grandchildren, Alex Posen, Nicholas Porter, Kaitlin Porter, Porter Davies, Graydon Davies and Eliza Davies. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia M. Geiss, of Cincinnati, OH, as well as many dear friends who will never forget his fun-loving, fiercely loyal, and generous heart. His life was a God’s Blessing.
Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Patrick Porter.
The family expresses profound gratitude to Duke University Oncology and especially Dr. Joseph Moore who often referred to Mr. Porter as “the miracle man.” They would also like to thank the Duke Nephrology department and The Cancer Institute of Greenville Health System for their dedicated care, assistance, and support.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 19, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church followed by Entombment in the Church Columbarium with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic School Scholarship Fund in memory of Robert Porter, 101 Hampton Avenue, Greenville, SC 29601, designated to be used to supplement the tuition of children in need of financial assistance.
