Rory Morgan, 54, of Greenville, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, February 28, 2022. Born in Lakeland, FL and raised in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of Betty Shetley Morgan and the late James Ray Morgan.

Mr. Morgan graduated from Boiling Springs High School and attended the University of South Carolina Upstate. While in college he worked at WSPA-TV, initially as a cameraman and subsequently in sales. Most recently, he was an independent agent for Symmetry Financial.

In addition to his mother, Rory is survived by his wife Kimberly and son Jordan. They were the loves of his life. He is also survived by two sisters, Torrie Eubanks (Jeff) and Jeanie Trively (Tom); one brother, Steve Morgan (Martha); father-in-law, Paul Norman; aunt, Joyce Ward; uncle, Don Shetley (Kay); and a niece and many nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Douglas Morgan, and his mother-in-law, Catherine “Kitty” Norman.

Rory was an amazing father who, when his son was young, loved coaching him on the Taylors Falcons Football Team. He was the founder and head coach for The Greenville Panthers, where he was successful in leading his team to winning the D2 Championship. Jordan excelled in high school athletics and in football at the collegiate level. There was no one prouder of his son’s success than Rory!

On any given weekend, you could find Rory and Kim exploring the North Carolina and Tennessee mountains, where they loved to discover the breathtaking mountain views and magnificent waterfalls. Visiting charming, small towns was also a favorite pastime. Rory loved nature and wildlife, especially eagles. Rory, Kim, and Jordan loved boating on Lake Keowee, taking in the gorgeous sunsets from their special place on the lake.

An avid history buff, Rory was well read in US and European history. He had a lifelong interest in the Biltmore Estate and Neuschwanstein Castle.

He treasured his friendships. As one of the “Four Horsemen,” Rory, Tom Gregg, Eddie Yandle, Rick Shirley (and later their sons) would take annual “Boys Weekend” retreats to the mountains or on the coast.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 3, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, with a vigil service and family tribute beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 4, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School, 101 Hampton Avenue, Greenville, SC 29601.

I was lucky enough to meet Rory at the beginning of 2020 and brought him into our agency as a life agent. Rory quickly learn the business and we talked weekly sometimes on a daily basis on how he can improve and get better at protecting families.. He brought his son Jordan into the business who exhibited the same zest for learning and wanting to excel like his father. Rory always talk to me about how proud he was of his son and family and we had many heart to hearts conversations.
