Ruby Childers

Ruby Kathleen Huffling Childers, 88, of Greenville, passed away Friday, December 7, 2012 at Riverpointe Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Virginia Beach, VA. Ruby was a kind, compassionate person that loved her husband and sons with all her heart. She spent a lot of time taking care of her parents, helping her sisters, brother and grandchildren in any way she could. Ruby spent the last five years of her life living near her son David Childers and daughter-in-law Ann Childers in Virginia Beach, VA. Ruby was born November 28, 1924 in Greenville, SC, the daughter of the late Sherman W. and Dora C. Huffling. Ruby was a member of Tremont Avenue Church of God in Greenville. She enjoyed creating masterpieces through quilts, crocheting, sewing and knitting. Ruby's passion was helping her family through the years. In her later life she worked as a tax preparer and in the nursing field. Ruby was loved and will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband David O. Childers of 63 years whom she married on March 5, 1947. Left to cherish her memories are her sons David Childers and Donald Childers, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. There will be a graveside service at Graceland West Cemetery on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are to be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Upstate SC; 301 University Ridge, Greenville, SC 29601.
