Shirley Anita Holloway Rainey, 84, devoted wife of over 65 years to Billy Rainey, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 18, 2021, at home surrounded by her family. She valiantly fought back from a fall and then was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer.
Born in Greenville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Odell and Sarah Jones Holloway.
She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her loving husband, her legacy will live on in the hearts of her three wonderful children, Teresa Green and husband, Walt, Cindy Sloan and husband, Lewis, and Michael Rainey and wife, Karen; six adoring grandchildren, Tony Green and wife, Laura, Tiffany Bannister and husband, Robby, Stephen Sloan and wife, Lyndsey, Shannon Story and husband, Caleb, Ben and Ellie Rainey; nine precious great-grandchildren, Olivia and Caroline Green, Brycen and Landon Bannister, Maddie and Anna Clare Sloan, Kaeli, Ryder, and Harper Story; and her sister, Debbie Dyar and husband, Billy. Her sisters-in-law Martha Rainey and June King and husband Harry.
Shirley and Billy met at Paris Mountain State Park, they were soon married and started their family. They enjoyed their shopping trips to Bargain and picnics in the park. Shirley was the most loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, “Mawmaw”, and “Sissy”. She loved spending time at the beach with her family and friends.
Shirley was valedictorian of her graduating class at Paris High School. She continued to fellowship with her former classmates up until her accident. She also enjoyed fellowship with their bowling friends of over 60 years.
She loved long telephone conversations with her family and many friends. She bragged and doted on her family and showered them all with love.
Shirley didn’t work outside of the home but provided childcare for many of the neighborhood children and devoted many years to the church nursery.
A visitation will be held on Monday October 25, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Mountain Creek Baptist Church with a celebration of Shirley’s life following at 1:30 p.m. A private interment for the family will follow.
