Shirley Bennett Rhymer, 74, of Greenville, loving wife of William Eugene “Gene” Rhymer, died Monday, April 12, 2021.
A native of Winnsboro, SC, she was the daughter of the late James and Doris Shaw Bennett.
Shirley was a graduate of Winnsboro High School and Winthrop University.
In addition to her husband of almost 52 years, she is survived by her daughter, Lacey Cobb (Matt); two sons, Scott Rhymer (Ann), Michael Rhymer (Amy); six grandchildren to whom she was MiMi, Taylor and Megan Rhymer, Callie and Cayden Rhymer, and Carson and Ethan Cobb; two sisters, Pam Bennett and Ginger Weigle; brother, Jimmy Bennett; nieces and nephews; and numerous Shaw cousins.
Shirley enjoyed a loving and fun filled childhood in Winnsboro, South Carolina. She played basketball and was a cheerleader throughout school, and she sang in the church choir. Shirley’s main passion was raising her family, which she devotionally did as the family moved from Lexington and then to Greenville. She most enjoyed spending time with family on the beach, at the lake, or at Clemson University. She was an avid fan of ALL things Clemson including the University, all athletic teams, and the city in general! She was a loyal and hard worker as a medical transcriptionist for over 40 years.
A visitation will be held Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Mauldin United Methodist Church Gym followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. in the Church Spirit Center. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. All attendees are strongly encouraged to wear masks and follow CDC guidelines on social distancing.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Brookdale Pelham Skilled Nursing, Easley Place Skilled Nursing, and Brookdale Hospice for their incredible love and care these past several years.
