Shirley V. Rainey, 86, devoted wife of 66 years to Hubert Rainey, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 17, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Spartanburg, SC, she was a daughter of the late Robert Beauford and Kathleen A. Floyd Vickery.

Shirley and Hubert met on a blind date and it was love at first sight. They married shortly after and started their family.

Shirley was a dedicated member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, Nannie, great grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her loving husband and partner through life, Hubert; two beautiful daughters, Karen Gracely and Beth Rainey; two adoring grandchildren, Brooke Masters and husband, Nick, and Jared Gracely; eight precious great-grandchildren, Ellie, Abbi, Nathan, and Ryan Masters, London, Harper Jane, Knox, and Henry Gracely; her loving sister, Emily Hazel Rhodes, and husband Jack; sisters-in-law, Mary Vickery, and Sue Crumley.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Steven Gracely; her brother, Bobby Joe Vickery; and a brother-in-law, Henry Crumley.

A service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. at Mountain Creek Baptist Church followed by the visitation until 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mountain Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, https://act.alz.org/donate.

Please accept our deepest sympathy. We had no idea that Shirley had passed until today. She was a wonderful, sweet woman and neighbor. She will be missed.

We are saddened for your loss and are praying for your family. We cherish the many fond memories enjoyed at Leawood Baptist Church for many years. Shirley brought happiness into every life around her. She will be missed.

I worked with Shirley at Stone Manufacturing many years ago. She was a dear lady and one of my favorite people at Stones. I can tell you she would talk about her wonderful husband and two wonderful daughters all the time. Just want her family to know that my thoughts and prayers are with them.
