Sue Smith Forrester, 105, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023.
Born in Mauldin, she was the daughter of the late William Arthur and Harriet Cobb Smith.
Sue was a graduate of Mauldin High School, Carolina Commercial College, and Greenville General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1938. Sue was a long time member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church. She served on two occasions for Southern Baptist Missions as a volunteer nurse at a camp for Inca Indian children in the Andes Mountains of Peru, South America. She also served as the First Detox Center Nurse at the Greenville County Detoxification Center from 1975-1988 at which time she retired from her nursing career at the age of 71. She also retired from the South Carolina Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
She is survived by daughter Ann Forrester Forrest; four grandchildren, Andy Forrest (Linda), Harriet Forrest Dodson (Tim), Phyllis Forrester Granade, and David L. Forrester, Jr.; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Luke Forrester, Sr.
There will be a graveside service on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Graceland East Memorial Park. Sue’s career of service to others will be recognized by the Nurses Honor Guard of South Carolina.
