Susan Hayward Collins, died November 28, 2021, widow of Edwin Paxson Collins, Sr. who predeceased her in 2003.

Together they raised seven children: the late Susan Jane Collins Hardaway, Sara Collins Dunn (Sally), Ellen Collins White, Suzanne Collins Kilborn, the late Paxson Collins MacDonald, Elisabeth Collins Hood (Lisa), and Edwin Paxson Collins, Jr. Along with their husbands and wife they were the parents of nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Theirs was a devoted and loving family.

Mrs. Collins was an accomplished flower arranger, a talent she shared with her church, her garden club, and her friends. A lover of classical music and an enthusiastic traveler, she formed groups of friends and traveled to her favorite cities around the world.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Church (Anglican), The National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the state of South Carolina, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. Collins’ memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church with an outside reception following on the lower lawn, at the church.

The family asks that flowers be omitted and memorials made to St. Paul’s Church, 304 E Camperdown Way, Greenville, SC 29601 or to Sara Collins Elementary School, 1200 Parkins Mill Rd, Greenville, SC 29607.

To the family of Susan Collins, The SouthEastern US Ohara Chapter (Ikebana) has lost a lovely, talented member. Those of us who were fortunate to know her are deeply saddened. We will continue to remember Susan beyond this ephemeral note. Those of us who are fortunate to have purchased her containers in the past, will remember her fondly each time her suiban or vase is used.... they are tangible reminders of Susan that are now our legacy, a legacy for which we are thankful. May your cherished memories bring you comfort and healing.

To The Entire Collins Family - - My sincerest of condolences go out to you upon learning of SuSu's passing away. SuSu was always a warm, caring and relationship-based human being and I will dearly miss her. The world, indeed, is a better place because of the numerous positive attributes of Susan Hayward Collins.

My Prayers and thoughts go out to the entire Collins family. I never had the pleasure of meeting Susan in the living but I know her son Ed and his wife Ellen as their neighbor. I often think of a line from a song called "Should You Go First and I Remain" which goes " Memory is one gift of God that death cannot destroy" ....Hold onto to all those memories of Susan, since they and God's comfort will help you all Heal.

I was so saddened to hear that Mrs. Collins had passed away. She was a true lady. I always enjoyed when she would come to Sara Collins to visit. I admired so much how she embraced Sara Collins Elementary School and how she continued to support and encourage the school that her husband's late wife began. She was a loyal friend to our school community and while her presence will be missed, her friendship over the years will never be forgotten. May God bless you all during this difficult time. Oh, how I remember Susan's ("Big Red" according to Jerry Clower, "Sue-Sue" to others) entry into the Ed ("Grandaddy Egg") Collins Clan! And what a surprise, a ready made family of seven!
