Susie Alene Wood

On May 26, 2020, our beloved and devoted mother, Mrs. Susie Alene Walker Wood, departed from this earth and went home to be with the Lord. She was born on February 10, 1940, in Mauldin, S.C., and was the daughter of the late Taylor Walker Sr. and Vivian Durham Walker.

Susie attended the public schools of Greenville County where she excelled and graduated from Bryson High School at the top of her class in 1958. She was the editor of her school newspaper, statistician for the sport teams and was actively involved in several school clubs and organizations.

At an early age, she joined the Reedy River Missionary Baptist Church and was a member there until she married. Later she became a member of Aiken Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she was a dedicated and faithful member, Sunday School teacher for over 40 years, director of the youth choir, a member of the Senior Missionary and Deaconesses and held several positions in church auxiliaries and organizations. She loved working in her church and diligently used her time, energy and talent to pursue the progression of the church and promote the will of God. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23, and she would often recite it to her family and loved ones.

On March 11, 1961, she was joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Myron S. Wood and from this union they were blessed with two daughters, Vanessa Wood-Foster and Tabbatha Wood Smith.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah W. Sloan and Janie Elaine Walker; and two brothers, Thomas Jefferson Walker and Taylor Walker, Jr.

In addition to her to her loving husband of 58 years, Mr. Myron S. Wood, she is survived by two daughters, Vanessa Wood-Foster and Tabbatha Wood Smith (Brian); three sisters, Doris W. Sloan and Rebecca W. Bryson of Greenville, and Betty W. Wood (Thomas) of Taylors; and a brother, McArthur Walker Sr. (Annie) of Greenville; three grandsons, Richard E.M. Foster, Brandon V.M Foster, and Gregory T.D. Foster; and two great-grand daughters, Destiny A. Blassingame and Madison L. Foster, all whom she loved dearly; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 1, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. in Graceland East Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. The family appreciates those attending to follow the CDC guidelines on Social Distancing and Wearing a Mask.
