Terry James Eskew, beloved husband of Shirley Eskew, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2024, in Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, SC. He was born on October 30, 1946, in Greenville, and was a son of the late Jesse “Red” and Ruby (Gosnell) Eskew.
Terry was a graduate of Parker High School, class of 1965. Following his graduation, he dutifully served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Stationed in Germany, Terry utilized his skills as a Dental Technician to provide care and support to his fellow soldiers.
It was during his time in the textile industry that he crossed paths with the love of his life, Shirley Waldrop. Their encounter at Armstrong World Industries sparked an immediate connection, and they were married on June 21, 1969, in Greenville. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Terry was a dedicated employee at Armstrong World Industries, where he worked as a shipping clerk for 40 years. He took advantage of the benefits offered through the GI Bill to further his education at Greenville Technical College, solidifying his commitment to growth and progress.
Outside of work, Terry had an undying passion for sports. He shared his love for baseball, softball, and t-ball with the community as a paid Umpire for Greenville County. Many generations of young athletes benefited from Terry’s wisdom and guidance as he officiated their games. In his leisure time, he enjoyed watching sports, especially his beloved Furman Paladins football team.
Terry was also a devoted member of Double Springs Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon and lent his melodic voice to the church choir, praising the Lord with every note. His dedication to his faith and church family was a testament to his compassionate and caring nature.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, Shirley Eskew, Terry leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Robin (Donald) King; son and daughter-in-law, Barry (Tori) Eskew; two sisters, Faye Cox and Sheila (Tony) Brooks; a brother, Randall (Susan) Eskew; five adored grandchildren, Andrew, Caleb, Katelyn, Lexi, Nikolas and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Double Springs Baptist Church in Taylors followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will be in Graceland Cemetery West.
