Vernice Q. Wald

Vernice Q. Wald, 98, wife of the late Herbert Charles Wald, Sr., of Greenville died Thursday, May 4, 2023. She passed peacefully in Charleston with her daughters by her side.

Born in West Union, SC, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Della Long Quarles. She attended Rabun Gap College and was a member of East Park Baptist Church. After many years working as a manager in the credit department, she retired from Sears Roebuck.

She is survived by two daughters, Joan McDonald Wald and Sharon Halter (Brad); six grandchildren, Mandy McDonald, Ashley McDonald Hilliar (Paul), Layla Wald Fleming, Charlie Wald (Kim), Lindsey Halter, and Brooke Halter Adams (Jon); four great-grandchildren, Evan Fleming, Emily Fleming, Jonathan Adams, Jr., and Tatum Adams; two brothers, Barbour Quarles and Durrel Quarles; sister, Shirley Edgar; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Herbert Charles Wald, Jr.; two sisters, Christine White and Jeanett Shugart; and two brothers, Lloyd Quarles and James Quarles.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2023, from 1:30 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Remembrance Chapel, with service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
