We met on HEC campus in 2006, you could have chosen the English section like most of your countrymen or other English native speakers, but instead joined the bilingual section, where part of the courses were in French. During the Core 1, we were in the same working group, I cannot remeber the number of hours spent together cracking case studies for the group. And at the end of the first semester, we both almost became a sub-group. Your open-mindedness and your thirst for learning were really bluffing, very quickly you were able to communicate fluently in French to the point of making many friends and obtaining a good job in France. I still remember your beautiful wedding in France and can imagine the deep sadness of your wife Eva and your little boy. Despite the distance, we were sometimes communicating. and recently an MBA comrade living not far from Greenville shared some news of you. I am sad to see you leaving us so young my friend, I will always remember you as a very disciplined, motivated, enthusiastic and passionate person. A person so passionate about cycling that nothing could stop you from riding your bicyle, not even rain or snow. RIP my dear friend,

I met Whit through a mutual friend we had in Atlanta. He had recently moved to Greenville, SC at that time. What amazed me was his overwhelmingly positive attitude. It was contagious. My family was lucky enough to become friendly with Whit's wife and son. Whit Oliver will be missed by many but forgotten by few.

Whit was a classmate of mine at HEC, Paris in 2007/08. What I remember most about Whit was his absolute determination to learn the French language. Unlike most of the overseas students, Whit did not live in on-campus housing but found himself his own place in the neighboring town so that he’d be surrounded by French-only speakers. Whenever I saw him around campus, he was doing his best to speak French. By the end of the year, unlike the rest of us, he’d mastered the language, he was fluent. I was very impressed. Always at ease and quick with a smile and a cheerful greeting he was a wonderful friend to all in our class. I didn’t see Whit again after I left France but that doesn’t make me miss him any less. The world is a less bright place without his presence. Happy bike trails in paradise mon ami.

Whit was an irreplaceable study-group partner and always a source of optimism! As a fellow American in Paris, I always admired his determination to improve his French (an example some of us tried to follow but none lived up to) as well as his companionship. We didn't have much free time to spend together, but he definitely knew how to make the best of the time we did have. We'll all miss him, but those lovely memories will live forever. RIP and thanks for the memories!
