William Douglas Cox, 94, the late husband of Gaynell Cox, died Monday, April 5, 2021.

Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late William and Mary Montgomery Cox.

William was a member of Berea First Baptist Church. In his younger years, he was a professional stock car racer and throughout his life enjoyed working on motors. He was an avid golfer and was always up for a good game of golf. His greatest love and joy was his family.

He is survived by grandson, Jon Cox (Megan); daughter-in-law, Ruth Cox; and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Cox.

In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Cox.

A cryptside service will be held Monday, April 12, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens. All attendees are strongly encouraged to wear masks and follow CDC guidelines on social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Berea First Baptist Church, 529 Farrs Bridge Road, Greenville, SC 29611.

Not a lot of wins but he was big time in my book. I was home on a pass from the navy (USS Wright CC-2)1968 and had a major problem with my car when I went to his place of employment (Townsend Pontiac). It was mid day Friday and I had to be back on the ship in Norfolk ,Sunday Night .I was told it would be Monday before they got it out but he said not to worry, He'd come in on Sat. and get it out. I was able to get the car Sat afternoon and make ship's departure on Monday. After having enjoyed his driving in the sportsman ranks at Greenville-Pickens speedway, I learned to appreciate him even more. - Unregistered Contributor.
