William “Bill” Hall Grey, III, 60, husband of Melissa “Missy” McAfee Grey, passed away on Saturday, September 16,2023.
Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late William Hall Grey Jr. and Motte Grey.
Bill graduated from J.L. Mann High School in 1981. He played football under Coach Bill Utsey. His teammates became his lifelong friends. He attended Presbyterian College where he played football and graduated from Winthrop College where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Being part of the SigEp brotherhood were some of his most cherished moments.
He worked in the Office Automation Industry for 35 years. He never knew a stranger and could start a conversation with anyone, and that’s what made him so good in sales. He loved to cook and entertain for friends and family. He always wanted to continue the special family traditions his parents had started with his Sunday Suppers and the holiday get togethers.
Bill was a big Clemson Tiger fan! He loved doing tailgates with friends and family and driving the “Grey Shuttle” to the games! He was an early riser, and expected everyone to leave early.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years and sons, William Hall Grey IV (Carlon) and Jayson Hall Wolcott (Meg); his sisters, Carol Jones (Fred) and Janice Grey; his uncle, Tommy Grey (Phillip); his sister-in-laws, Martha McAfee and Mary Rohaley; his brother-in-law, Charles McAfee; and mother-in-law, Toni McAfee. He adored his nieces and nephews, Ashley Patrick, Blake Hinton (Elaina), Anna Grey, Jack Rohaley, Charlie Rohaley, and Emma Rohaley.
Bill is predeceased by his parents and sister, Julie Grey Kernodle.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown with the memorial service to follow at 2:30 p.m.
